PRG vs Grey MTB Race

Getting ready for the big race
So this weekend was a “biggie” for the Paul Roos Mountain Bike Team. It was our annual interschools against Grey College in Bloemfontein, and boy, was it some race. Everyone’s training year round finally paid off…

As the race was due to take place on Friday the 17th , the 16 hour bus ride commenced on Thursday morning, quarter to 4, any cyclists worst time of the day! As the team slumped back into their luxurious seats, the bus ride was over when everyone pened up their eyes. Finally….Bloem… Some stayed in the hostel at Grey College, and some was hosted by learners of Grey College at their homes. Doesn’t matter where you were staying, everyone gave it their best to ensure our comfort, and I can say with honesty that it was the best stay in Bloem EVER!

THE TEAM
On Friday morning, the team’s bikes arrived in Bloem, having been transported by our coach, Oom Corrie Muller, who we ow a huge thanks for his part in this event. Now, warmup time, then race time. The track consisted of nothing other than rocks. The 29’ers were looking smug when they saw this...

All in all the course was technical beyond belief, and Grey dished out the best they could offer us. Dodging the rocks, completing the technical rocky ascents, can only be declared as FUN. Everyone enjoyed the race, and the outcome came in a victory for PRG, with Jannes Buijs taking 1st place followed closely by Dean Morgan in 3rd in the Junior race. The youth’s being wrapped up by Harrie Malan and Stephan Senekal  taking 1st and 2nd.

The Start

The hockey the Friday night and the MTBing on the (Very Cold) Saturday morning, provided everyone with memories to keep. We owe a big thanks to Grey College for organizing the event, and we look forward to them coming to visit us in 2013! Thank you to everyone who made this trip possible, and most of all, THANK YOU FOR ALL THE SUPPORT!! - Dean Morgan
